This YouTuber received a call asking him to head out into Utah to retrieve a flipped aircraft that was in ‘no man’s land’.
HeavyDSparks was going to use a Hägglunds BV 206 for the job, as it was perfect for the ultra-soft terrain that would usually leave normal vehicles sinking.
It would prove crucial in the drive over, as the sticky, salty lake mud left the vehicle running a little hot at times.
Nonetheless, they made it out to the plane – but would things get any easier from that point?

Recovering a flipped aircraft in dangerous Utah terrain
This plane had essentially flipped on its nose in the middle of the desert.
“The ground is super sensitive, super soft,” HeavyDSparks explained.
“And we happen to be the only ones the State of Utah calls when something like this happens.”

HeavyDSparks has form for filming planes out in the desert – remember these abandoned Air Force jets in Nevada?
When we say this plane was out in a remote location, we’re not kidding.
There’s not a soul in sight – just the distance sight of the wondrous mountain range that the state of Utah is renowned for.
Getting out to the plane wouldn’t be easy, as the super soft sand was a guaranteed sticking point.

But they made it out there and got to work.
This plane hadn’t crash landed or anything, it’d gotten stuck whilst being taxied around.
At any rate, it was up to HeavyDSparks and his team to get it un-stuck.
How was this plane rescued?
The plan was to pull the aircraft back down to the ground, whilst keeping it from slamming down.

Then the tailwheel would be set up on their vehicle’s dolly, where it would strapped down ready for towing.
On paper, it sounds simple enough.
But in reality, this took longer than expected due to the sticky mud environment they found themselves in.
Fortunately, the mud was no match for sheer force of will and they got the job done.

“All the equipment is covered in salty mud and that stuff just eats through stuff,” he acknowledged.
“We got to take a fire hose to them and rinse them down.”
We’d bet that the cleaning process would be satisfying to watch – if these car cleaning transformations are anything to go by.
