Marques Brownlee has cancelled his Tesla Roadster order nearly eight years after he paid a $50,000 deposit.
The Youtuber put down $50,000 for the ‘fastest production car ever made’ back in 2017.
However, with no Tesla Roadster in sight eight years later, he decided to pull out.
He opened up about his reasons on a recent podcast appearance.

Why Marques Brownlee cancelled his Tesla Roadster order after 8 years
It’s been eight years since Elon Musk announced the Tesla Roadster.
A lot may have changed since then, but one thing remains the same – the Tesla Roadster still hasn’t been released.

YouTuber Marques Brownlee, known online as MKBHD, was one person who placed an order back in 2017.
With $50,000 paid and two cars reserved, he has been waiting for nearly a decade.
He has now decided to cancel his order, laying out his reasons on his Waveform Podcast.
“Tesla has been sitting with my 50 grand for eight years and hasn’t done anything with it, obviously,” Brownlee said.

He’d paid for one Roadster, and a Founder Series model had been added on for free as a ‘referral award’.
He has cancelled his Roadster reservation, whilst keeping the free one on his account.
Brownlee said he was getting his $45,000 payment back, but he wouldn’t be seeing his $5,000 initial deposit again.
“Tesla’s just had that money the whole time,” he said.
“I could have done so much with that. I’ll do something else with it now.”
Why has this long awaited EV still not been released?
This raises the question though – where is the Tesla Roadster?
Back in July, the Senior Vice President of Powertrain for Tesla, Lars Moravy, provided an update.

“[The] Roadster is definitely in development. We did talk about it last Sunday night. We are gearing up for a super cool demo,” Moravy said.
So that’s a confirmation that the Roadster is still on its way.
But eight years of waiting has proven to be too much for some customers.
YouTuber Mark McCann put a down payment of $5,400 on the Roadster back in 2017.
However, after growing weary of delays, he asked for a refund.
The delayed unveiling has also given some energy to rivals who are looking to beat Tesla to the punch, like Longbow, co-founded by former Tesla engineer Daniel Davey.
It’s still anyone’s to play for.
Which company will cross the metaphorical finish line first? Only time will tell.
