YouTuber Mat Armstrong gave himself a $68,000 budget for a salvage yard with a specific car in mind, but somehow drove away with something else entirely.

Mat found a very promising looking BMW M4 CS listed online for around $24,800, but when he saw it in person, his excitement waned.

The BMW M4 CS had so many unique features like being a rare spec, having carbon fiber elements and having a reasonable price tag.

He somehow walked away with a supercar but became increasingly convinced that he had made the wrong decision.

Mat Armstrong and his salvage yard discovery

It sometimes feels like Mat Armstrong can work magic with the most damaged of cars, so when he visited a salvage yard with $68,000 and a dream, you know he’s going to find a hidden gem.

He went along with the whole goal of buying a BMW M4 CS which looked like a true find in the wild, as it came in a rare spec with carbon fiber elements and it only cost around $24,800.

Mat described the custom BMW car as the ‘whole reason’ for his trip after falling in love with it online.

But when he saw it in real life, he was taken aback by the state of it.

It had significant structural and chassis damage.

The damage was so bad that he turned his back on the car altogether.

Did he make a mistake?

Mat checked out some alternative vehicles like a yellow Audi R8 Convertible and an Audi RS7, the RS7 is very cheap so he was tempted by it.

He decided to flip a coin, but was overwhelmed by the low-quality options he had to choose from and ultimately decided to walk away from the BMW and the Audis altogether.

The YouTuber finally decided on a Mercedes AMG GT63S E-Performance, which cost him his entire budget.

What helped sell the hybrid was the fact it had only 4,100 miles on it.

The car started weakly and despite the visible damage on the suspension and subframe, Mat could see the potential.

After his purchase, he still longed for the BMW M4 CS, admitting it was ‘probably a mistake’ not buying it.

There’s still time, Mat.
