Mazda just dropped a brand new showstopper: the X Coupe concept.
Unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show this year, it’s a four-door sports coupe that channels the RX8 with a futuristic plug-in hybrid setup.
It pairs a two-rotor rotary engine with electric motors and puts out an impressive 503 horsepower.
While this is just a concept, Mazda says it’s a nod to the brand’s design future.

About the new Mazda X Coupe
Mazda’s newest offering is a futuristic EV called the X Coupe.
The X Coupe’s design pays homage to Mazda’s most iconic sports car, the RX8.
It set out to keep the RX8’s sleek proportions while modernizing every line.
The rear-hinged half-doors have been replaced by full-size rear doors, making the coupe-style body more practical without compromising its edgy appearance.

Under the sculpted shell sits a rotary-assisted plug-in hybrid system capable of 99 miles of pure electric driving and a total range of up to 497 miles.
That’s more distance than any rotary ever dreamed of, and with the instant torque of electrification, it’s not just efficient, it’s fast.
Mazda’s future looks exciting
The X Coupe’s simple interior is designed with the driver’s comfort and control in mind.

A panoramic display dominates the dash, while analogue-inspired dials and a chunky drive selector hint at the automaker’s retro performance roots.
The concept also runs on carbon-neutral fuel made from microalgae, showing the brand is serious about blending power with sustainability.
The automaker described the design as a ‘bridge between eras’.

Mazda said the X Coupe embodied its next step in ’emotionally engaging’ design – a perfect fusion of nostalgia and innovation.
It may still be a concept, but if this is where the automaker is headed, we’re excited.
