Mercedes-AMG has just driven an EV prototype, the incredible Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept, the distance of Earth’s circumference in eight days.

The German car manufacturer has recently been pushing the limits of what an EV can do, and testing out the efficiency of the AMG G XX concept at the Nardo high-speed test track in Southern Italy.

During its time at the track, the electric car broke 25 performance records, averaged over 5,000km a day, and drove around at well over 200mph.

What started as a demonstrator for its new architecture has become one of the most impressive Mercedes made.

How far did the Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept go?

Mercedes took the car, which we recently got to look at, around the fearsome Nardo test track in Italy.

Under the hood, the GT XX has 1,341hp, and it can add an amazing 250 miles of WLTP range in just five minutes of charging.

Initially, Mercedes set out to do just a 24-hour race performance run, similar to the Le Mans 24 Hours.

After that was completed, the team decided to just keep going.

The car kept going for a total of seven days, 13 hours, 23 minutes, and seven seconds.

The AMG GT XX smashed the previous record of a 24-hour distance set by an EV.

This was with the Chinese XPeng P7 prototype, which set a record of 2,461 miles.

The Mercedes, meanwhile, smashed through 3,405 miles.

The Mercedes EV prototype traveled the circumference of the Earth

Making the achievement all the more remarkable were the records the concept car smashed.

Mercedes said the EV broke 25 performance records while it traveled a distance equal to the full circumference of the Earth.

For context, that distance is 24,901 miles at the equator.

It did 3,177 laps across Nardo’s 7.88-mile oval circuit.

Mercedes ran two prototypes during the test, each one setting very similar results within 16 miles of each other.

In total, 17 drivers took part in the test, including Mercedes F1 driver and race winner George Russell.

The drivers took part in two-hour stints, and the car reached an optimal driving speed of 186mph.

To say that what Mercedes did was impressive is a massive understatement!
