After we went viral for sharing a video about the Mercedes AVTR concept car, YouTuber ND-Woodworking Art created a replica of this incredible machine entirely out of wood.
Here at Supercar Blondie, we see a lot of very strange cars, but this one really knocked the socks off us.
The Mercedes – designed to tie in with James Cameron’s Avatar film series – is one of the most intricate and unusual cars ever imagined.
Now, master craftsman ND-Woodworking has made his own version entirely out of wood, and it’s almost as impressive as the car itself.

When we featured the AVTR on YouTube, we described it as the ‘world’s coolest concept car’.
Despite that being a crowded field – this BMW is mind-blowing as well – we’d have to stand by our original claim.
So, when YouTuber Truong Van Dao, the brains behind YouTube sensation ND Woodworking, decided to make his own version, we had to check it out.
The Mercedes AVTR is like no car you’ve ever seen
The natural shapes of the Mercedes AVTR concept car perhaps lend itself to wood carving, as they are smooth, sleek, and look uncannily organic.
You could believe that this car was a living creature rather than a machine made of nuts, bolts, and metal.
On the Mercedes VISION website, the car is outlined as a ‘sustainable future for the automobile’ and ‘the concept vehicle that redefines what is possible’.
It’s hard to disagree with that.
AVTR stands for ‘Advanced Vehicle Transformation’ and there’s a lot of that going on, from the color-shifting lights to the center console that bears resemblance to the Tree of Souls from the film.
But that’s just the aesthetic stuff.
It’s a zero emissions car, running instead on ‘graphene-based organic cell technology free of rare and toxic elements’.
That adds up to a 435-mile range, while the car is equipped with charging technology that fills to capacity in 15 minutes.
The wooden replica is almost as impressive as the original
The wooden version of the AVTR isn’t quite as tech-heavy, but it is nonetheless a real feat of engineering and skill.
The crafting process took 100 days and it looks as if not a single second of that time was wasted.
Just look at the grain, polished to perfection, with no small detail left out.
It’s hardly the first time YouTuber ND-Woodworking has blown us away with his intricate and faithful recreations – which he often makes for his son – but seeing this AVTR replica cruise the streets just hits a bit different for some reason.
You can check out the full making-of video on YouTube here, and – whilst you’re there – check out some of his other amazing projects.
The Na’vi would be proud.
