Mercedes-Benz has filed a new patent for a futuristic headrest that would massage your scalp while you drive – what a time to be alive.
Mercedes-Benz knows a thing or two about luxury cars, just take a look at the upcoming S-Class or this stunning Mercedes-Maybach S680 that belongs to Lionel Messi.
But now, the carmaker is ramping up the luxe factor even further.
At least according to a recently filed patent, that would see it introducing tiny mechanical arms to give head massages throughout your journey – here’s what we know.

The new patent could add an extra touch of luxury to its cars
Carmakers have introduced all sorts of features to their interiors to make for a more comfortable ride, from heated and ventilated seats to fridges and TV screens.
But it looks as though Mercedes could be the first automaker to introduce massaging headrest that’ll make driving your car feel like a spa day.

The new patent was first spotted by CarBuzz and shows the design for a small mechanical massager unit embedded into the headrest.
The filing notes that stressed out drivers can suffer from ‘muscle strain, fatigue, and headaches, which impair the driving experience’, but that the handy little massager could be an antidote.
Although it might sound fairly straightforward, the filing details a complex little mechanism that includes sensors so it can detect the height and position of the seat’s occupant, so it can adjust and offer the most comfortable experience.
The filing revealed that the main massager unit could be fitted into a headrest and then connected to arms on adjustable shafts, that are able to twist, turn, move, and vibrate to help melt away tension.
It would be driven by an electric motor, and could also be introduced into the existing massage mechanism within the seatback of some models.
The patent explains that the massager could be switched on or off via several ways, including the person’s phone or through a button on the car’s infotainment system.

Mercedes-Benz is no stranger to luxe interiors
It’s important to note that just because a company files a patent, it doesn’t mean it will automatically end up introducing it.
However, the world’s first massaging headrest would be a good fit for Mercedes.
The marque is certainly no stranger when it comes to piling on the luxury in its cars.
For example, take a look at its Vision V, which features a ‘VIP lounge’ back seat that is accessed via face-recognition software.

Inside, you’ll find a huge 65-inch cinema screen with a Dolby Atmos surround-sound system featuring 42 speakers, as well as a chess set built into the door and a slick zero gravity mode.
There are also seven projectors in the EV’s headliner and floor, which can transform the inside of the vehicle into a fully immersive experience.
Now, imagine all of that while you’re getting a head massage – sounds good, doesn’t it?
