Mercedes-Benz has created a new EV charging station that can recharge an electric car with 202 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
Faster charging times are something all manufacturers and electric suppliers are looking to achieve right now, especially with how rapidly Chinese electric cars can recharge.
Mercedes might be one of the first in the West to get close to that, with a new type of charger that can pile in over 200 miles of range in around 10 minutes.
The new technology will debut at select ‘charging parks’ in Europe and North America in 2026.

What the new Mercedes-Benz charging promises
The company announced its new tech at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, Germany.
It has said it has integrated a new Alpitronic charging solution into the technology.
The technology is called HYC1000 and is inspired by the one used on tests on the Concept AMG GT XX EV.
According to the manufacturer, the tech can sustain fast-charging of up to 600kW per charging point, which is certainly rapid.
But Mercedes also states that the system is modular.
It relies on an external power unit, versus the in-built systems of regular charging points.

The new external power supply can provide up to 1,000kW at 800 amps for the new system.
That means you can potentially recharge up to 202 miles of range into an EV in just 10 minutes.
It is expected to be used on the all-new Mercedes GLC with EQ technology.
Mercedes is promising a lot with the new Charging station
The German manufacturer has said it will begin to add these new stations to the charging network in 2026.
Locations are currently not known.
But the hope is that all EV users, whether they drive a Mercedes, Hyundai, or a Tesla, will be able to use them.
Chinese EVs can already recharge in incredibly fast times.
It is an area where Western manufacturers have been badly lagging behind.

The ability to give an electric car over 200 miles of range in barely 10 minutes would be a massive win.
There are two questions that will need answering.
These are how reliable the new system will be and how rapidly the company can start to roll it out.
Hopefully, whenever it first appears, it can be another step towards eliminating range anxiety.
