This six-wheeled G-Wagen is a tribute, believe it or not, to the Popemobile

This is the G-Wagen ‘Habemus’, a Mercedes G63 by Carlex inspired by the newest Popemobile.

Named for the traditional announcement given when the Pope is elected (Habemus Papam), this G-Wagen is arguably the craziest we’ve seen so far.

The new Popemobile is based on the electric G-Wagen, but the tuning firm used a G63 instead.

And – of course – they’ve given it six wheels.

Is this is the craziest G-Wagen ever?

Not long ago, Mercedes unveiled a new G 580 electric G-Wagen designed to be the new Popemobile.

It looked a little different, and it already looked pretty ‘out there’ to begin with, but this Carlex one is something else.

The Habemus is painted white with gilded accents throughout, including on the wheels, with two seats at the front, one seat for the Pope at the back, plus four benches for the Swiss guards.

The price tag hasn’t been revealed, but to be honest we’re shocked there’s a price tag to reveal in the first place.

Because it means this ‘thing’ is actually for sale.

They also haven’t said anything about power or performance, so we can assume the Habemus uses the same 544-horsepower 5.5-liter V8 as the ‘standard’ G 6X6.

About this tuning company

Carlex is relatively new to the scene but they’ve got a clear plan about what they want to do.

They’re on the same page as brands like Mansory, by which we mean they take vehicles that are already pretty flashy and make them even more conspicuous.

They’ve done a Mercedes-Maybach GLS, which they made greener – as in literally more green – and with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.

They also already created several G-Wagens in the past, including an orange model that’s about as subtle as the Habemus one.

Still, if it’s good enough for Il Papa, it’s good enough for everyone else.
