A Minnesota widow was left visibly emotional when she saw her late husband’s DeLorean after it had been cleaned for the first time in decades.
The iconic sports car had spent around 25 years sitting inside a garage alongside two Ferraris, gathering dust while holding decades of memories for the family.
WD Detailing eventually got their hands on the car and carefully brought its stainless steel body back to life.
But nothing could prepare its owner for the moment she finally saw the finished result.
The DeLorean had a special place in the family
The iconic DeLorean car had originally been bought by Mrs. P’s late husband in Los Angeles, with the family then driving it all the way back to Minnesota, it wasn’t simply another car in his collection, either.
Mrs. P had driven the DeLorean herself, although she admitted it wasn’t exactly the easiest car to take out on the road.

Other drivers would pull alongside her, give her a thumbs-up and try to get her attention, making changing lanes something of a challenge.
She even managed to get the car up to 80 mph, although she never quite reached the famous 88 mph needed for a trip “back to the future.”
After her husband passed away, the DeLorean remained tucked away in the garage for years.

Then WD Detailing gave it a remarkable makeover
When WD Detailing finally got the car out of the garage in Minnesota, the team had to be particularly careful with the bodywork.
Unlike a conventional painted car, the DeLorean is made from exposed stainless steel, meaning the wrong cleaning products could have permanently damaged its distinctive finish.
Thankfully, what initially appeared to be pitting on the stainless steel turned out to be mostly surface dirt and mold, which disappeared surprisingly easily during the wash.

The team then polished the stainless steel, cleaned the interior and carefully worked through the rest of the car to bring it back to its former glory.
And when Mrs. P finally saw it, her reaction said everything, she said, “are you sure that’s the same car?” she asked, visibly stunned by the transformation.
She then admitted that seeing the DeLorean looking so good made her incredibly happy.

The DeLorean is more than just a car
The emotional moment came down to much more than simply seeing a dirty car become clean again.
Mrs. P explained that the DeLorean was particularly meaningful because she had driven it herself and shared memories of it with her husband.

She said she could “feel” that he would be smiling at the transformation.
The family now hopes the car can continue to be loved and driven, with her son also showing an interest in keeping it in the family.
For WD Detailing, that is what made the project so special.
The team pointed out that a car is ultimately just “metal and rubber and glass” – but the people who drive them are what make them meaningful.
And after sitting hidden away for around 30 years, this DeLorean finally got the kind of emotional comeback that its history deserved.
