The Tesla Model Y refresh, codenamed Juniper, is finally here after endless leaks and rumors — and there are some features nobody saw coming.
It’s been months since we started hearing about the Model Y refresh, with rumors circulating that it would come with a massive upgrade.
While it’s a notable upgrade from the now-previous EV variant, Tesla apparently went all-in to make it miles better.
The leaks were mostly true, but there was much more to the story than anyone thought.

Everything new in the Tesla Model Y Juniper refresh
If you’re the least bit interested in the Tesla Model Y, you might have already seen numerous leaks and rumors about it.
We knew it was codenamed Juniper, and we even heard about its rumored specifications months ago.
The leaks were quite extensive — so much so that it appeared on the automaker’s Chinese website days ahead of the official launch.
Now that we know the official specifications, the ‘changelog’ over the previous variant is rather long.
And no, we’re not talking about how it looks.
The new features on the Tesla Model Y aren’t particularly significant.
However, they offer massive quality-of-life improvements.
What nobody saw coming
Firstly, the carmaker included a new and improved glass coating and ventilation system that basically reflects more heat, keeps the airflow ‘better,’ and essentially makes the cabin cooler.
There are also new seats and a patented seat ventilation system, which offers more comfort and efficient cooling.
The Model Y didn’t previously have ventilated seats as an option, so this was a notable upgrade.
Further, you get power reclining backrests in the rear row of the EV, which can adjust your backrests electronically.
This same feature also works to completely fold the rear seats flat and bring them back up — no latch involved.
While they’re not massive upgrades, they were made for convenience and better driver enjoyability.
It’s also important to note that some of these were already included in the last Model 3 refresh.
While the automaker gave the Model Y all the same upgrades as the Model 3, it went a step further.
Tesla gave it some brand-new features like a drain plug in the trunk.
But how useful this will be for everyday life, we’re not totally sure.
All in all, these are minor but notable upgrades for the new Tesla Model Y.
