Sometimes, buying a new Tesla Model Y can feel like a gamble, especially with all the chatter online about quality issues and delivery-day drama.
But for one brand-new owner of the 2026 Model Y Long Range AWD, the experience has been the complete opposite.
After five weeks and 2,000 miles behind the wheel, they took to Reddit’s r/ModelY community to share their excitement.
Their verdict? Driving a Tesla still feels ‘a little surreal.’

Tesla nailed it with the Model Y
The proud new owner explained that this is their very first electric vehicle, and it’s been a long time coming.
They admitted they’d dreamed of owning a Tesla ever since the Model X was first announced, but nearly abandoned the idea due to the controversy surrounding CEO Elon Musk.
In the end, they decided not to ‘let a ten-plus year dream die,’ reasoning that one person doesn’t define the entire company.
Judging from their post, they don’t regret that choice one bit.

From the moment they picked it up, the Tesla Model Y exceeded expectations, which isn’t too surprising, considering its sales are on an upward trend in many markets.
They raved about the ride quality, fit, and finish, noting that it was far better than what they had read in negative reviews online.
While other owners had complained about cars arriving as a ‘mess,’ this driver said Tesla ‘absolutely nailed it with this car.’
Tesla’s FSD was worth every penny
Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software also won them over.
The feature often gets mixed reviews, and this is especially so during the company’s recent Tesla Robotaxi launch in Austin, where it doesn’t always perform well.

However, they found it to be ‘worth every penny,’ comparing it to having a personal driver.
Their only gripe? Noisy wheel covers, which they quickly swapped out. Otherwise, it’s been smooth, silent driving.
Encouraging others to make the leap, they pointed to tax credits, the retail price, and the overall joy of going electric.
With zero issues after their first 2,000 miles, they said they couldn’t be happier.
Fellow Redditors celebrated alongside them, with many sharing their own positive experiences with the EV giant’s vehicles and their FSD.
At this rate, it looks like the honeymoon phase with their Model Y may last for many more miles to come.
