The Nissan Patrol Safari might just be the oldest SUV still in production.

It’s selling like hotcakes too, especially in certain corners of the world.

The Y61-generation Patrol, now known as the Patrol Safari, is selling particularly well in the Middle East and Bolivia.

There’s good reason for that too.

Nissan Patrol can still be purchased in some parts of the world

The Patrol Safari lineup offers two versions: a five-seat, two-door model and a seven-seat, four-door version.

Interestingly, the basic design has stayed the same since 1997; however, there have been some modern updates over time to keep things fresh.

For instance, the headlights and grille have been redesigned, and the wheel arches now have a beefier look.

Inside, things are simple but functional.

The center stack has been updated, but you’ll still find an old-school analog and a four-spoke steering wheel.

Now, the Patrol Safari is sold a bit differently depending on where you are.

In the Middle East, it comes loaded with features like parking sensors, a rear-view camera, and Bluetooth.

Meanwhile, in South America, the version is more stripped-down, featuring steel wheels, plastic bumpers, and cloth seats.

A powerful SUV perfect for off-roading

The Patrol Safari is impressive under the hood too.

The Nissan SUV features a 4.8-liter straight-six engine that delivers 280 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, and customers can choose between a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic gearbox.

To top it off, it’s a perfect vehicle for off-road adventures, and the preferred vehicle for desert safaris.

Despite rumors of its end, the Y61 Patrol shows no signs of slowing down.

After all, SUV fans are still loving it after all these years.
