A Tesla Cybertruck owner from Ohio has said he accidentally found himself driving the EV through a tornado.

Cybertruck owner Joseph was driving the truck on a trip to Indiana before he ended up in the path of a tornado.

Joseph was going to buy new rims for the truck but forgot to check the weather forecast before setting out.

That led to him driving in the worst conditions he had driven through, but he was stunned by the performance of the Tesla throughout the perilous drive.

Driving through the tornado wasn’t by design

Talking on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, Joseph said that he never intended to drive the EV through such severe weather.

The Cybertruck owner is a big rig driver by trade and has experienced his fair share of bad weather.

His recounting of the story on the Cybertruck forum shows how bad the weather got.

Joseph said “I didn’t check the weather before driving to Northwest Indiana to purchase a set of Cyber rims.

“Coming back, it was unbelievable! We came within about 20 miles of confirmed tornadoes in Carmel, Noblesville, and Fishers.”

While he could have stopped over at a hotel, Joseph said that wasn’t something he wanted to do.

The Cybertruck held its own in the stormy weather

Despite the severe weather, the owner was surprised at how well the truck coped driving through 70mph winds.

Most of the drive was in 70mph sustained winds, and then gusts of the same speed south of Indianapolis.

The truck stayed in full-self driving 60 percent of the time, and only disengaged when the rain got really bad.

Joseph said that he and his wife could see the blowing rain and the trees shaking in the wind.

Yet there was no bad feeling on the steering wheel, and he kept the truck 10mph under the speed limit.

Further praise was heaped onto the truck, given Joseph said it was the worst rainstorm he had ever driven through.

Glowing praise was given to the Cybertruck by others on the forum, given its performance.

For all its faults, it appears that Tesla has built a very capable vehicle when it comes to handling stormy weather.
