This woman showed the internet what happens when the odometer of an old Chevy hits a million miles.

Caylee Penderass had an odometer on her lap and was spinning the numbers up with assistance from a drill.

She wanted to see what would happen when it hit one million miles – particularly as there wouldn’t be enough numbers to accommodate that figure.

What happened left her stunned – and the internet in stitches.

What happened to this old Chevy odometer when it hit 1,000,000 miles?

It’s a milestone very few cars live to see.

Hitting that seven-figure milestone is a remarkable feat for any vehicle.

When Penderass wanted to see this odometer hit that number for herself, she decided to take matters into her own.

Not by driving the Chevy for more than a million miles, but by spinning the odometer forward with a drill.

A much quicker process, we’re sure you’ll agree.

But when it reached the pivotal moment of 1,000,000 miles, the odometer simply locked up.

This led to a lot of amused comments from viewers.

Because the odometer flipped over when it locked, many joked that the car would have been sent tumbling had the odometer been inside a car at the time.

There were several references to Mr. Wormwood, the crooked car salesman in Matilda, and the main character’s dad.

You may recall that he wound back the numbers on high-mileage vehicles to sell them on.

This is very much illegal, in addition to being very dishonest.

So why did the odometer stop rolling at one million miles?

Well, in most old cars, odometers would simply reset when they reached such a mileage – because, let’s face it, nobody was reaching those dizzying heights back then.

There have been plenty of cars pulling in a million miles in the past few years, though.

These cars have clocked in more than a million miles

As you might expect, the drivers who racked up more than one million miles have gained some notoriety.

One Greek taxi driver got to 2.8 million on his Mercedes 240D over 23 years.

While Albert Klein hit 1.6 million in his VW Beetle.

Then there was the guy who got to 2 million miles and decided he wanted to add an additional million, just for fun.
