This medical courier made headlines when she drove her Hyundai Elantra an astonishing one million miles in just five years.

Farrah Haines, based in Kansas, averaged an incredible 548 miles per day, far exceeding the US national average of 14,000 miles per year.

Her job delivering medical supplies required constant travel, and her 2013 Elantra proved more than up to the challenge.

Hyundai not only verified the feat, but also rewarded Haines with a special gift.

A million miles in only five years

Haines’ 2013 Hyundai Elantra was still operating on its original powertrain when the million-mile mark was hit, which was something even Hyundai found remarkable.

While there are cars out there that can rack up even more than two million miles, what’s most astounding is how quickly the Elantra managed to do it.

Because the digital odometer couldn’t register more than 999,999 miles, Hyundai created a custom ‘1M’ badge to celebrate the milestone.

The company confirmed the mileage through service records, VIN data, engine casting numbers, and physical inspections of key components, like the wiring harness and motor mounts.

Hyundai stated it would offer the emblem to any other owners who reached the same mark.

To keep the car in peak condition, Haines reportedly had oil changes every two weeks and stuck to a strict maintenance routine.

Though the silver Elantra showed signs of wear, it remained in good condition, which was helped in part by a rugged front brush guard.

A special gift to mark the achievement

Recognizing the achievement, Hyundai gifted Haines a new 2019 Hyundai Elantra in a striking red finish as a gesture of appreciation.

The surprise handover took place in 2018, marking a unique milestone not just for Haines, but for the brand itself.

While most drivers will never come close to hitting such a massive mileage figure, Haines’ story remains a shining example of vehicle durability and dedication.

And considering her driving habits, the new Elantra may already be well on its way to another million, which wouldn’t be that surprising, as someone has already done something similar with two Toyota Tundras.

Of course, while this is definitely an example of Hyundai making vehicles that last, it’s not the company responsible for two of the three highest mileage cars in the world.
