A heavily customized Dodge A100 pickup was transformed into the one-of-one Dodge Deora and featured as one of The Original Sweet 16 Hot Wheels cars.

The Dodge Deora was originally designed by famed car designer Harry Bentley Bradley and built by brothers Mike and Larry Alexander.

The car was built to be showcased at the 1967 Detroit Autorama and went on to win sever awards including the annual event’s ‘best in show’ or Ridler.

It looks weird but equally fascinating.

The Deora was built around a Dodge A100 pickup truck, but was so heavily customized it was basically unrecognizable.

As well as using the Dodge A100, the brothers took a back hatch from a 1960 Ford station wagon to create the windshield.

They then got chopping and sectioning – cutting away huge parts of the truck to give it an awesome futuristic look.

Inside the Deora was kept pretty simple, with two leather-clad seats and a yoke-steering wheel.

The Dodge Deora had a slant six engine and three-speed manual transmission, which were actually pushed back around 15 inches (38cm) out of the cab and into the bed.

The result is a car that’s so unique looking we can guarantee you’ve never seen anything like it before.

It was unveiled at the 1967 Detroit Autorama and won a stack of awards.

Nine in total, including the coveted Ridler Award.

And the one-off Deora wasn’t done yet.

It’s also a major part of the history of the beloved Hot Wheels toy cars, after being used as a prototype for one of the original ‘Sweet 16’ back in 1968.

Although we’ve only ever had one version of the real Deora, Hot Wheels has actually released two more, most recently the Deora III in 2019. The car also appeared in the Hot Wheels animated TV series.

The real-deal Deora went up for sale in 2009 with a listing revealing that it’s engine can produce a little over 100 horsepower.

The car sold at auction in California for a staggering $324,500 – equivalent to around $476,000 today.
