Most people don’t take their Tesla Model X on long road trips, but YouTuber Everyday Sandro is attempting to take his custom-built EV all the way from Canada to Argentina.

This is perhaps one of the most ambitious road trips ever attempted in an EV, especially since charging infrastructure varies greatly between countries.

Having completed the North American section of his trip, Sandro had to ship his beloved Model X, affectionately named ‘Beluga’, through the infamous Darién Gap.

However, the reunion is anything but smooth, as the YouTuber finds himself in a little bit of a pickle almost immediately.

This Model X is halfway through its journey from Canada to Argentina

This episode of Sandro’s epic expedition takes place in Cartagena, Columbia.

The video begins with him eagerly awaiting the arrival of his 2023 Tesla Model X at the docks.

This isn’t any ordinary Model X either; his car has been converted into a full-on camper, complete with solar panels mounted on the hood and a compact kitchen.

After three weeks lost in shipping paperwork and ocean transit, Beluga emerged in Columbia with its battery charge intact, which is great.

However, the interior told a different story.

Moisture trapped during the sea voyage left the car battling invasive mold, turning Sandro’s ‘home’ into a biohazard on wheels.

Despite the setback, Sandro was still pretty stoked to get his car back, comparing the experience to picking up a long-lost family member from the airport.

The first order of business was to give the EV a thorough cleaning to address the mould problem.

He couldn’t charge his Tesla Model X without local documents

The next thing on the agenda was to figure out how to charge his Tesla, which turned out to be harder than he realized.

While Colombia does have fast chargers, accessing them as a foreigner isn’t so straightforward.

The local charging network requires national ID numbers, local phone service, and even domestic bank accounts.

Unfortunately, Sandro had none of these.

After two hours of trying (and failing) to create a charging account, he lucked out when a stranger offered to help him.

The local resident helped him create a temporary charging account, even adding his own local debit card to the account, so he could power up his Tesla.

It’s a pretty heart-warming moment, and just one of the many times the YouTuber received generosity on the road.

With his Model X now ready to hit the road, Sandro’s journey in South America was just getting started.
