Pagani's new $14M Huayra Codalunga is its most powerful ever road-legal hypercar and its interior is so detailed it has 4 million stitches

This is the Pagani Huayra Codalunga Speedster, one of the fastest convertibles in the world.

And also one of the most expensive hypercars in the world.

Powered by a V12, the Codalunga Speedster is super rare: only 10 units were built.

Top Gear managed to drive one, and they decided to answer the question everyone’s asking.

The key differences between the Codalunga and the ‘regular’ Huayra

Originally launched in 2022, the Pagani Huayra Codalunga was yet another ‘spin-off’ variant of the Huayra, limited to only five units.

The Codalunga, which translates to longtail in Italian, is 240mm longer than the Huayra, and it features an elongated aerodynamic shape inspired by racing cars of the late 1960s like the Porsche 917.

Pagani founder Horacio Pagani said the Huayra Codalunga was designed to be ‘longer and smoother, as if it had been caressed and molded by the wind’.

A few years later, Pagani also unveiled a convertible version.

Because why not.

The Speedster is virtually identical to the coupe

There aren’t that many differences between the Speedster and the regular Codalunga, apart from the obvious absence of a roof.

The Codalunga comes with an AMG-sourced twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 which churns out 860 horsepower, around 20 more than the coupe, and it still maintains Pagani’s signature quad exhaust pipes.

And a lack of rear grilles makes space for an unobstructed view of the Codalunga’s exhaust system.

Just like the coupe, the cabin is decked out in jet-inspired toggle switches and there are also little controls in the shape of propellers on the steering wheel.

The attention to detail is pretty wild.

There are refined patterns that draw inspiration from the four-exhaust symbol, with overlapping stitches – over 450,000 individual stitches on each embroidered element, actually – all meticulously done by hand.

The same patterns also adorn the seats, door panels, and center console.

The key is also inspired by the jets, and it cost $10,000.

Top Gear has been driving it, and they came to a conclusion.

Is it worth the price tag?

Despite being limited to 10 units instead of five, the Pagani Huayra Codalunga Speedster is actually twice as expensive as the coupe variant.

It costs around $14 million, which is a lot of cash.

Top Gear’s Ollie Kew has been driving it, and he came to a firm conclusion.

The first thing Kew pointed out is that this car is an engineering masterpiece.

“Underneath all the Leonardo da Vinci meets Tony Stark for a good time pantomime and flare. These things are properly engineered sports cars,” he said.

Which shouldn’t surprise us.

“Paganis deserve perhaps more than any other hypercar to be shamelessly, mercilessly driven,” he added.

His conclusion?

It is worth it, but as presenter Ollie Kew suggests, the Pagani Huayra Codalunga Speedster functions more like a piece of high-end art than a standard vehicle.

No argument there.
