The original Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R from 2 Fast 2 Furious – driven by Paul Walker as Brian O’Conner on screen – has finally been found.

Everyone thought the car had been lost or destroyed, but fortunately, that wasn’t the case.

There are a couple of things worth noting.

And we should explain why this car is so important, because that’s probably not necessarily for the reason people might think.

Why the car had been considered lost

We should start by reminding ourselves that 2 Fast 2 Furious was released in 2003.

The key difference between then and now is social media.

Back then, ‘hype’ was a very different concept.

As a result, the ‘life’ of this car had not been thoroughly documented, mostly because we had fewer tools to do it.

This is why a lot of people thought the hero Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, and how it ended up in Europe.

But the car was never stolen or lost: it simply ended up in the hands of a private collector who didn’t care about social media.

After filming, it briefly went to the Volo Museum in the United States before being sold to its last private owner around 2008.

The owner is a private collector in Norway who hardly ever drove it, almost never used it to appear at local car shows, and never showcased it on social media.

They just kept it in the living room.

Chrome Cars eventually located the car, and after years of negotiations, they were able to buy it.

Why this Nissan Skyline is so important

Most people assume that more than one Skyline must’ve been used for the movie, and they’d be right.

According to Craig Lieberman, technical advisor for 2 Fast 2 Furious, who also worked behind the scenes for the first movie, the production team used one stunt car, another stunt/jump car that was used for the ‘jump’ at the beginning of the movie, one ‘fake’ Nissan 240SX-based car, and three hero cars.

This is one of the hero cars driven by Paul Walker, and likely the last and only surviving Skyline R34 GT-R from the film that remains in completely original condition today.

This Skyline will presumably be sold at auction at some point in the future, and it’ll likely break records.

Three years ago, another Skyline driven by Paul Walker in the franchise ended up fetching seven figures at auction.

More recently, the Mazda RX-7 driven by Han, played by Sung Kang in Tokyo Drift, also sold for over a million.

This one is unlikely to sell for less than seven figures, but time will tell.
