A man who appeared on Pimp My Ride and received a custom Toyota RAV4 out of it has revealed what happened off-camera.
Back in the early 2000s, this MTV show entertained millions and gifted the world some truly wacky and wonderful cars.
However, more and more has been revealed about the show in recent years.
Let’s just say, all was not as it seemed – and one of the show’s participants has spoken out about what happened behind the scenes.

What happened when this man brought his Toyota RAV4 onto Pimp My Ride?
Reddit user ukulele_j opened himself up for questions over on the aforementioned site.
Back in the early 2010s, he identified himself as Justin Dearinger, the contestant who got a modified Toyota RAV4 out of his stint on the show.
He got his car pimped out in the show’s sixth season, which aired in 2007.

Unfortunately, the car was engulfed in flames in 2011, with faulty wiring being cited as the cause.
Considering that fitted candles and a chocolate fountain had made their way into the car, that is a real possibility.
So what did Justin have to say on Reddit when faced with questions from the internet?
He confirmed that the car took five months to complete, and that he didn’t like it at first.

“But I eventually got used to it,” he said.
“I also redid the whole car, added about $20,000 worth of things to it.”
Further down the thread, he revealed that the wiring error was the work of a completely different shop, absolving Pimp My Ride of any blame.
When asked why he was chosen to appear on the show, he gave a simple explanation.

“By the time they were filming this season, they had already done minivans, Mercedes, a f**king bus, and an ice cream truck. They have never had a RAV4 before, so they went with it,” he wrote.

Other contestants have opened up about their time on the iconic MTV show
Other people who have appeared on the show have spoken out about their experiences over the years.
One man who got his Buick revamped has revealed that he got a strict warning hours after he listed it on eBay.
But it’s not just the car owners themselves that have put their heads above the parapets to say their piece.
Xzibit, the rapper who hosted the show, has been vocal with his feelings about the show, including his biggest regret.
As well as what he came to hate about being on the show.
At any rate, the show certainly did one thing right – it has us talking about it nearly 20 years after it went off the air.
