A Pokémon card has just sold for more than the price of a brand new Ferrari supercar as it breaks record

This Pokémon card just sold for over $1 million, making it more expensive than most supercars, including the majority of Ferrari models.
This probably shouldn’t surprise us.
Over the last few years, the collectibles‘ market has absolutely exploded.
But there’s a slight catch there.
These are some of the cars you can buy with that money
A 2005 Gold Star Rayquaza Pokémon card just sold for $1,020,000 on Fanatics Collect, making it the most expensive Rayquaza card ever sold.
That’s around $88,000 more than the MSRP of a brand-new Ferrari SF90 XX Spider.
But for that cash, you can actually buy a long list of supercars – not just the Ferrari.
A Formula 1-inspired, mid-engine Aston Martin Valhalla, for example, starts at $1,050,000.
Or you could buy almost two Lamborghini Revueltos.
It starts at $610,000, so $1.02 million is almost enough to buy two of them.
Alternatively, you can also buy a Porsche 918 Spyder or even a McLaren Senna.
You can even buy luxury watches with that money, including maybe a Richard Mille or definitely more than one Rolex Daytona.
And the catch is this isn’t even the most expensive Pokémon card ever.
Why this isn’t the most expensive Pokémon card ever
One thing that hasn’t necessarily been made sufficiently clear online once the sale was confirmed is that this isn’t the most expensive Pokémon card ever.
That’s because – and this is a key distinction – this is the most expensive English-language Pokémon card ever.
Pokémon cards are available in Japanese, English, and of course other languages.
This card in particular set the record for the English language, which is statistically the second most important in terms of market volume.
As for the Japanese-language cards, that record was set by Logan Paul’s Pikachu Illustrator card.
In 1998, 10 Pikachu Illustrator cards were originally released exclusively in Japan as a prize for winners of the CoroCoro Comic illustration contest.
Because it was only distributed there, all authentic copies of the Pikachu Illustrator are in Japanese.
Logan Paul bought one of these cards in 2021 for $5.275 million, which set a Guinness World Record at the time.
He then sold it in February 2026 for $16.49 million through Goldin Auctions, which set another record.
