This man had 80 acres of land in Utah to work with, so he decided that he was going to build a private runway on it as part of an experiment.
Content creator Wairworthy is already building his own airplane from a kit, in addition to making gear for pilots.
But now he’s going one step further by making a private runway on his land to see if any pilots show up.
And that’s not all he’s got planned.

Why was this man planning to build a private runway?
With 80 acres of land at his disposal, Wairworthy wanted to build a private runway.
Even for a plane guy, that’s a big and bold undertaking.
“Our goal is to create a place where we can escape together and also have our friends fly their airplanes in to camp,” he explained.

This was an ideal spot for it – the site was open to some ‘epic’ views and was up against public land.
The latter factor provided the opportunity for hunting, hiking, and all that outdoorsy stuff.
“Overall we just want to improve it into something truly special,” he said.
It’s already well on its way to that, as container cabins, solar power, a septic tank, and even a pickleball court have all been built on the land.
A Say Weather Pro system has also been added, which gives pilots real-time weather data as they come in to land.
In the next year, he has big ideas about what he wants to do next.

“We want to regrade the runway to make it safer,” he said.
“Right now, there’s a pretty aggressive slope that pulls you into the fence.
“We’re also considering adding gravel to the runway to smooth it out a bit, but I worry about rocks chipping propellers, so I’m still deciding on that one.”
And that’s not all – he wants to dig a well.

“We have water rights on our property,” he explained.
“Our goal would be to create a pond where we can stock fish or potentially invite more wildlife to come visit.”
He also floated the idea of planting some aspens on the property to provide more tree cover.

As you can see, he has a lot of plans for the land.
We love an ambitious DIY project
Usually when we’ve seen plane enthusiasts take on DIY projects, it’s the jets themselves that have been the primary focus.
Take the YouTuber Jimmys World as a prime example of that – he dropped $42,000 on an alleged Buzz Aldrin jet in a bid to make it airworthy.

And that was small fries compared to the work he did converting Elvis Presley’s abandoned plane into an RV.
