An explorer discovered an entire street of abandoned luxury mansions in Puerto Rico, with enormous properties hiding everything from grand staircases to forgotten collections of vintage comics.
The homes appeared to have been left to decay, with furniture, personal belongings and unusual features still inside.
Some of the buildings were so large that it was difficult to tell whether they had once been private residences or part of a bigger resort.
And despite exploring the properties, the mystery of who owned them and why they were abandoned remained unsolved.
The abandoned mansions looked like they once belonged to wealthy owners
In a video documenting the discovery, an explorer walked along an overgrown street lined with impressive mansions that looked as though they had once belonged to wealthy residents.
One of the biggest properties stretched across three floors and featured decorative pillars, large windows and an elaborate outdoor area that had included a pond, a bridge and statues.
Inside, the explorer found a piano, scattered furniture and beautifully tiled bathrooms, all slowly being reclaimed by nature.

Termites had caused extensive damage to wooden furniture and walls, leaving belongings scattered across the floors.
The property even had a spiral staircase leading to an upper level with potted plants and views overlooking the entire neighborhood.

It looked like the kind of place that could have hosted lavish parties, but there was no clear answer about who had lived there or what had caused them to leave.
The explorer from Stringer media wondered whether the properties had been purchased by a developer or whether something more unusual had happened, but neither possibility was confirmed.

Vintage comic books and personal belongings were left behind
The mansions weren’t just empty shells, either.
One property was packed with unusual objects, including chandeliers, old statues, copper pots and what appeared to be an extensive collection of vintage comic books.
Some of the comics were still protected in plastic sleeves, with prices and dates printed on them that suggested they could have been decades old.

Elsewhere, the explorer found horse saddles, old CDs, paintings and furniture, leaving him wondering whether the former owner had been a collector or someone who had stored items for renovation projects.
Another house contained a stroller, children’s clothing, a suitcase and other personal belongings.
There was even old food in the kitchen, including items with expiration dates from 2019, while medication found elsewhere appeared to date back several years.

The explorer suggested someone might have occupied the luxury property after it was abandoned, although he couldn’t confirm this.
All these objects offered tantalizing glimpses into the lives once lived inside the mansions, but none provided a definitive explanation for why the neighborhood had been deserted.

One enormous building could have been a restaurant or resort
Perhaps the strangest discovery came at the end of the street, where the explorer found a huge building filled with rows of chairs and enormous open rooms.
Rather than looking like a traditional home, the layout led him to suspect it might once have been a restaurant or part of a resort.

The surrounding property made the theory even more intriguing.
Inside another structure, he discovered an enormous swimming pool with a deck built over part of it, along with several boats and paddle boats that had been left behind.

It was an unusual setup for an ordinary private residence, prompting questions about whether the entire area had once operated as a luxury retreat.
Despite the impressive architecture and the sheer number of abandoned belongings, the explorer never established the site’s original purpose.
There was one final twist, too.
After visiting a property where a car remained parked, he discovered that someone appeared to be keeping an eye on the neighborhood.
That suggested at least part of the area might not have been as deserted as it first appeared.
The explorer eventually left without solving the mystery, with the former owners, the reason for the abandonment, and the history of the unusual luxury properties all still unknown.
