This is the Range Stormer, a forgotten Land Rover concept car that gave us possibly the most popular Range Rover ever built.
Even though the Range Stormer never made it to production, this concept was used as a starting point for a production model that’s still being made today, and another car that came years later.
That makes it a worthwhile investment – because, reportedly, it cost a fortune to build.
And you’ll never guess who actually built it.

The story behind the Range Stormer
Back in the early 2000s, Land Rover began considering a spin-off variant for the Range Rover.
The original Range Rover was the only one available, and it was a massive and expensive SUV.
The idea was to make a smaller, sportier, more affordable model.
The result was this strange-looking, two-door SUV with Lambo-style doors called the Range Stormer.
A YouTuber who goes by the name of Horsepower Hunters was able to put his hands on it, and the vehicle is a lot more interesting than we thought.

The interior looked retro-futuristic, with a dashboard and center console that looked like they belonged to a spaceship.
On the flip side, its wood seats look like they were borrowed from a 1940s townhouse and applied to frames from the 2040s.
Translation – there are a number of influences at play, here.
Despite being very heavy (over 2,500kg), it had a top speed of 289km/h, mainly thanks to the 400-horsepower V8 under the hood.
Even though the Stormer never made it to production, it spawned the Range Rover Sport and, many years later, it provided visual inspiration for the two-door Range Rover Evoque.

This is the same company that gave us a lot of incredible concepts
When they decided they wanted a sportier Range Rover, Land Rover approached a company in Turin called Stola and asked them to make a concept car for them.
Apparently, production of the Stormer cost around $1.7 million.

Stola is a company known for making concept cars.
Among others, they made the Maybach Exelero, the original Mercedes SLK, and even the 1999 Mercedes-Benz Vision SLR Roadster, the prototype that preceded the production SLR.
But Stola is also a renowned engineering firm.
The Ferrari 575M Maranello and the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano, for example, were both designed by Ferrari in partnership with Stola.
