Supercars had a bit of a boom in the ’90s, especially when it came to rare designs and strong lap times on the racetrack, but all the rarest supercars of the ’90s had one thing in common.
From the single unit Isdera Commendatore 112i to the Czech Tatra MTX V8, all of the cars have something in common and it’s their incredibly small production number.
It was a good time to be a fan of supercars, as the decade saw the birth of the Lamborghini Diablo, the McLaren F1, and the Ferrari F50, all of which are still heralded today as some of the best supercars to exist.
The ’90s also saw a move towards road versions of famous manufacturers’ racecars so it was arguably one of the most exciting decades for supercars.

The rarest supercars of the ’90s
It seems like the last time life was good was back in the ’90s, and frankly, we miss them. But mostly because the supercars of the era certainly enjoyed a renaissance.
The decade saw the birth of popular supercars like the Lamborghini Diablo, the McLaren F1, and the Ferrari F50.
But there was a series of rare and innovative supercars that all had one thing in common: their incredibly exclusive production runs.
Let’s take a look at some of the rarest supercars of the era and what makes them so special.
Isdera Commendatore 112i

The Isdera Commendatore 112i had an incredibly small run of literally one. Designed by former Porsche engineer Eberhard Schulz, it features a Mercedes-Benz 6.0-liter V12 engine producing 408HP.
The one-of-a-kind prototype is as rare as it gets and the single unit recently sold for $1,204,348.37.
Cizeta-Moroder V16T

This Italian supercar was the brainchild of former Lamborghini engineer Claudio Zampolli and music composer Giorgio Moroder, and it has an incredibly distinctive design with a transverse mounted six-liter engine.
It also had an extremely limited run, with only nine ever created.
Lister Storm

Created the same year as the Isdera Commendatore 112i in 1993, the Lister storm is known for being one of the fastest four-seater supercars of its time.
It houses a 7.0-liter Jaguar V12 engine producing 546HP. Only four were ever produced so it definitely deserves its place on this list.
Tatra MTX V8

The Tatra MTX V8, unveiled in 1991, is a Czech supercar featuring a 3.9-liter V8 engine with 302HP.
The design, with its snazzy pop-up headlights and scissor doors, sadly didn’t see much of the light of day, considering that production was halted when a factory left them with only four completed units.
Spectre R42

The Spectre R42 is a British supercar with a 4.6-liter Ford V8 engine that can produce up to 350HP.
It’s super rare due to the whole company ceasing operations when they’d only cranked out 23 units – making it a rare and mysterious option for your ’90s supercar.
While you can still get your hands on lots of classic ’90s supercars, these collectibles form an elite group of small production line cars, making them the rarest supercars of the ’90s.
