A real airline pilot recently stepped into the digital cockpit of a CRJ aircraft to test his skills on Microsoft Flight Simulator, and the results were hilarious.

Emil, who flies the CRJ700 and CRJ900 in real life, agreed to a simulated ‘check ride’ overseen by his friend, who runs the YouTube channel Airforceproud95.

To make things interesting, Emil was blindfolded before being dropped into surprise airports.

What followed was equal parts aviation drama, comedy of errors, and proof that even pros can sweat in front of a monitor.

A real airline pilot attempts one of the hardest landings

By now, you have probably seen stories of aviation enthusiasts trying to land various aircraft in an actual flight simulator.

However, the script is flipped in this video uploaded by Airforceproud95, as it’s now an actual pilot testing his skills on Microsoft Flight Simulator instead.

The first challenge: Saba, the Caribbean island famous for having the shortest commercial runway in the world.

At just 1,300 feet long, and perched on the edge of a cliff, this is a nightmare even for seasoned pilots.

Emil immediately realized where he was and attempted a careful approach in the simulated CRJ900, which is far larger than any plane that lands there in real life.

The landing didn’t go quite to plan, as he touched down short and ended up on the beach.

Luckily, his ‘examiner’ graciously awarded extra points for the unexpected oceanfront access he provided passengers.

It wasn’t realistic, but it was entertaining.

Of course, this isn’t the most challenging runway in the world, but it’s pretty close.

Microsoft Flight Simulator has its quirks

Next, Emil’s blindfold came off for a second attempt: New York’s LaGuardia Airport.

With more runway to work with, he set up for a looping approach to runway 31, all while narrating like a true pro.

The landing was firm, and made even more chaotic by the discovery that the parking brake had been left on. Which is an examiner’s error, apparently.

Still, Emil brought the jet down safely, earning a passing score and a few laughs along the way.

The video wasn’t just about landings though, as it showed the quirks of flying airliners in a home simulator.

Unlike real aircraft, Microsoft Flight Simulator can be unforgiving with control sensitivity, and Emil had to improvise when things didn’t behave like the real CRJ.

Watching a professional adapt to those limitations highlighted just how skilled real airline pilots are, and the many dangerous scenarios they have to face to be certified to fly.
