If you love to get muddy, raise hell and watch people do insane things with off-road vehicles, Rednecks with Paychecks is the event for you.
Rednecks with Paychecks is an adult-only biannual off-road festival that takes place in Saint Jo.
Where’s Saint Jo you ask? Where else but the US state of Texas.
It’s a mecca for redneck culture on a level you’ve probably never seen, well… Supercarblondie.com’s Nathan Bain hadn’t.
And he’s an Aussie, so you know he’s seen some strange bogan ridiculousness in his life.

“It was peak redneckness,” Nathan said.
“It was like everyone in party mode, everyone was there to have a good time.
“Everyone was trying to outdo each other with how much partying they could do, it was everyone’s chance to let their hair down, and show off who had the most crazy redneck contraption.
“The amount of money and time that was at the event, in terms of what people had spent building on these machines to show off these things, a lot of these vehicles aren’t road legal so it’s for these festivals.
“Not only that but they were throwing them into mud pits and tug of war and breaking axles, people were rolling them.”

What goes down at Recnecks with Paychecks
- Off-road racing
- “Barbie jeep downhill” where people try to go as fast as possible down a grassy slope in toy trucks
- “Mud pit” where giant vehicles try to drive through a swampy trail as fast as possible
- And of course the tug-o-war contests between huge heavy-duty vehicles!
The truck tug-o-war is definitely one of the craziest events, with every kind of vehicle from lifted super-duty pickups to tracked dump trucks battling it out against each other in a competition of who has the most pulling power.
When is Rednecks with Paychecks?
The next Rednecks with Paychecks event is the Fall Mudcrawl, which will take place from September 15-18.
