A restorer recently bought a 1988 Chevy Cavalier Z24 for $3,000 at auction, taking a gamble without seeing the car in person.
The listing didn’t provide many details, so he knew there was a risk.
But the Cavalier Z24 had always been one of his dream cars, and luckily for him, the car turned out to be in much better shape than expected.
And what he found in the trunk turned out to be a nice surprise too.

1988 Chevy Cavalier Z24 with surprises in the trunk
YouTuber Randy Lee Shear was surprised to find a trunk full of items, including detailed maintenance records dating back to 1990.
Among these items was a factory AC Delco fuel pump and various replacement parts.
Shear, who previously bought the world’s cheapest Model S Plaid with no keys, shared the story with his almost 500,000 followers on the Auto Auction Rebuilds YouTube channel.
Featuring a 2.8L multi-port fuel-injected V6 engine, the Chevy Cavalier Z24 wasn’t just well-maintained on the outside, but the interior was in great shape too.
The car was well-preserved
Unlike most old cars, there were no cracks on the dashboard, and the original factory paint from 1988 was still intact.
The only noticeable flaw was the sagging headliner, but that was an easy fix.
Just like this 1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye spotted at the 2024 Carlisle Mopar Show, the YouTuber said he was seriously impressed with the state of the old car.
The Chevy Cavalier Z24 now sits proudly alongside a lineup of old cars in his garage from the ’80s and ’90s.
