An emotional farewell for a retiring pilot was recently captured at Edinburgh Airport.

The United Airlines flight was bound for Newark Airport in New Jersey when the airport’s fire crews decided to give the pilot a memorable send-off.

This special tribute was for Captain Workman, who was preparing for his final takeoff after thirty years of service.

Given his more than thirty years of service, Captain Workman really earned and deserved this special send-off.

This ceremony involves spraying water over the aircraft from fire engines.

It’s a common tradition in aviation to honor significant milestones such as pilot retirements or other noteworthy events.

This is something truly special for Captain Workman, just like the airline pilot who spent a full year’s pay to fly his friends to Dubai.

A spokesperson for United Airlines said, “We express our deepest gratitude to Captain Workman for the hard work, dedication and exceptional service during his thirty years of flying the friendly skies with United Airlines.”

They further added, “We wish Captain Workman all the best for the next chapter of his journey.

“United has a proud history of serving Scotland, with this year marking our 20th anniversary flying from Edinburgh to New York/Newark.”

Edinburgh Airport is one of the busiest airports in the UK, handling 14.7 million passengers in 2019.

The ground crews at Edinburgh have a history of performing water salutes for special occasions and also paid a special tribute to Air Baltic’s first flight.

Now, let’s talk a bit about United Airlines.

United Airlines, founded in 1926, is one of the largest airlines in the world.

It operates a vast network of domestic and international flights.

The airline’s fleet includes a variety of aircraft such as the Boeing 737, 757, 767, and 777, known for their reliability and efficiency.

The company is headquartered in Chicago and is a founding member of the Star Alliance, offering extensive global connectivity.

This grand send-off was well-deserved by the pilot who dedicated his life to aviation.
