A while back, Richard Hammond got pulled over in Dubai at the wheel of a strange Mercedes-AMG G-Class.

The Mercedes was strange because it had six wheels.

But the reason he got pulled over was even stranger.

And, as you can imagine, Dubai police weren’t using cars that were exactly normal.

A brief recap of what happened

Richard Hammond was driving a massive Mercedes-AMG G-Class 63 6×6 in Dubai when a police Lamborghini Aventador pulled him over.

Hammond was sure he’d get a ticket, but the officer simply wanted to take a closer look at the unusual car.

This, by the way, is (or perhaps we should say ‘was’) a factory car.

This massive G-Class was an official Mercedes-AMG product, even though it remained in production for a relatively short time.

The engine is a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8, putting out 536 horsepower.

Sadly, it’s no longer in production.

We wonder why.

Being a Dubai police officer must be fun

At this point, everyone knows that Dubai police officers have access to some pretty spectacular cars.

The list of exotic cars Dubai police can use is pretty long and it includes practically every luxury brand you can think of.

Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche, Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce, and the list goes on.

Most of them are supercars, but there are also SUVs like the G-Wagen or the Ferrari Purosangue, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, or the Bentley Bentayga.

They even use Aston Martin One-77s – limited to 77 units – and a Bugatti Veyron.

In addition to that, they also use custom vehicles built by equally high-profile tuning companies like Brabus or Mansory, as well pony cars like the Chevy Camaro or the Dodge Challenger.

Interestingly, the list also features electric cars.

They use the Lotus Emeya and Lotus Eletre, the Audi RS e-tron GT, the Mercedes EQS 580, and then there are both Chinese and American cars, including the Lucid Air Grand Touring and the Tesla Cybertruck.

Richard Hammond didn’t want The Grand Tour to end

In a recent podcast episode, Richard Hammond revealed that he actually didn’t want The Grand Tour to end.

The Top Gear and Grand Tour trio were often labeled as ‘three middle-aged men’, and they themselves often played with this ‘definition’ with a hint of self-irony.

But we have to remember that Hammond was born in 1969, which means he was in his 30s at the start of the Top Gear era, and in his 40s at the start of the Grand Tour era.

More importantly, Hammond is nine years younger than Clarkson, which doesn’t sound like much when you’re in your 20s or 30s, but it is a big deal when one is 66 and the other is 57.

But Clarkson, Hammond, and May made a collective decision to end it because they figured it was a good idea to quit while you’re winning.
