It's no surprise Romanian billionaire had to be reminded he owned a $3,000,000 Ferrari F40 given it's not even his crowning jewel

Romanian billionaire Ion Țiriac once admitted he’d completely forgotten he owned a $3 million Ferrari F40.

We’re not saying Ferrari lovers will ‘forgive’ him for that, but hopefully they’ll at least understand when they learn his reason.

The first reason is that he owns about 400 cars.

The second reason is the F40, amazingly, is not the most valuable car in his collection.

The crowning jewel of his collection isn’t the Ferrari F40

In an interview posted on the Tiriac Collection YouTube channel, the Romanian billionaire shared the story of how he managed to get his hands on two Ferrari F40s.

Only to forget about them later.

This happened because he keeps most of his Ferraris in a storage unit in Germany, which is obviously a long way from his native Romania, and also because we assume it must not be easy to remember each car you have if you own more than 400 of them.

But the other reason is that the Ferrari F40 is not the most valuable or rarest car in his collection.

That particular title belongs to his Formula 1 car.

F1 cars hit the market a lot more frequently than we think

Unlike The Beast (the presidential limo), F1 cars don’t have to be destroyed every time they’re replaced.

So, used F1 cars hit the market a lot more often than you might think.

This is because even a Formula 1 car from just two or three years ago is not particularly useful when it comes to trade secrets.

Formula 1 teams generally hold on to their cars for a few years but are perfectly happy to sell them once they’re no longer technologically relevant.

Sometimes they sell them to drivers.

Several Formula 1 drivers own F1 cars they drove.

Sometimes they sell them to collectors.

Bernie Ecclestone, for example, used to own a bunch of them before selling them on.

As for Ion Țiriac, he owns the Oracle Red Bull Racing RB6, the car that won the 2010 F1 title.
