Saab is a brand that we’ve all heard of, but the vehicle manufacturer initially started its reign with a whole different premise.

But after the initial products came into fruition, an automobile soon hit the ground running, which paved the way for the brand’s success among gearheads worldwide.

From convertibles to daily drivers, the cars became part of everyday life until the production ultimately ended just over a decade ago.

Do not fear, though, as the brand’s name is still very much alive, in more ways than one.

A tale as old as time – Saab has been around for decades

As a car maker, Saab was around for many years. But it turns out that the company actually had a very different start in a different sphere.

You see, the company first made a name for itself as an aircraft manufacturer in 1937, which assisted the country of Sweden in making jets.

But the auto world opened up shortly after when the first car concept was born.

“The first car was unveiled in Linköping in June 1947, though it was 1949 before production, based in Trollhättan, really got going, and those iconic bottle green vehicles hit the roads.

“Over the intervening years, each new Saab passenger car became instant classic of design, reliability, and safety,” stated the company itself.

Models that auto-enthusiasts are still interested in include the 900, 9-X, and the 9-3, among many others, with Saab’s car models initially taking inspiration from aircraft aerodynamics.

“The company’s aircraft engineers thought they could use their knowledge of aerodynamics from aircraft manufacturing to improve the acceleration compared to that of the German cars,” the company explained further.

But despite the car models being produced for many years, they are not rolling off the line today.

Saab was taken over by General Motors in 2000, and it sadly had to file for bankruptcy just years later, with car production ending in 2014.

But don’t fear, as Saab as a whole still exists, with the company still manufacturing certain goods to help with security.

Even though production has stopped, they are still being uncovered

Despite production of its models having stopped some time ago, it seems Saab cars could be more popular now than ever before.

In fact, years after the company shut up shop, over 20 abandoned Saab cars were found in a bankrupt dealership in a discovery that will take you back in time.

Plus, one Saab was even given a whole new lease of life by being turned into an RV, thanks to one model being put on a Volvo 204.
