These guys flew to Seattle chasing something special, but what they found was a 1987 EMC Starfire – an RV so rare it felt like a once-in-a-lifetime find, and a mechanical disaster in the making.

The HeavyDSparks YouTube team spotted a bizarre RV and bought it the moment they laid eyes on it.

Only around 20 were ever built, and it originally sold for $200,000. They picked it up for just $12,500.

However, just one hour later, it broke down.

An RV so rare, they had to have it

As retro RVs go, the 1987 EMC Starfire stands out as one of the rarest and strangest ever built.

Mounted on a Ford E-Series chassis and packed with Lincoln design cues, this fiberglass-bodied oddity was considered the pinnacle of RV luxury in its day. Back in the ’80s, it was a $200,000 rolling status symbol.

But the design? That’s another story.

With its stretched, tapered front end, it quickly earned the nickname ‘anteater’ – and it’s not hard to see why.

For the HeavyDSparks crew, it ticked every nostalgia box – pink carpeting, a central vacuum, an ice maker, and even a telescope-style backup camera.

But the dream unraveled almost immediately.

After driving just 10ft from the curb, the Starfire sputtered and died.

Cue several hours of mechanical triage.

They tried swapping batteries, replacing fuses, jumping the starter solenoid – anything to bring it back to life.

Nothing worked.

They left one guy behind to guard the rare RV while the rest ran to Walmart for supplies – backup batteries, fuses… and snacks. Mechanics makes hungry work.

By the time they got back, spirits were up.

They managed to get it started – briefly. But minutes later, the engine cut out again. A melted solenoid and suspected fuel system failure ended the day’s efforts.

Chaos befell their summer roadtrip

The plan was simple: road-trip the Starfire all the way to Shasta Lake, California.

Instead, they ended up stuck in a Seattle parking lot, half-joking about selling it just to avoid bringing it home.

To be fair, the 1987 EMC Starfire still has serious collector appeal. It’s rare, weird, and loaded with retro charm – the kind of RV that turns heads even when it refuses to move.

It was meant to be the ultimate summer adventure rig.

Now it’s a mechanical mystery draining time, energy, and patience.

Still, they’re not giving up – at least, not yet.

The vlog ends with the team booking a hotel for the night and planning to return first thing in the morning to try again.

They’re hoping to get it roadworthy and back on track for their Shasta trip… but even they admit it’s a long shot.

And if it doesn’t work?

They might just have to sell their once-in-a-lifetime find – snacks, tools, and all.
