A South Carolina couple built this Chevrolet S-10 drag truck – dubbed the Redneck Racer – in their backyard with junk parts and elbow grease.
Shortly before getting hitched, the couple snapped up a ‘sketchy’ 1997 Chevy S-10 off Facebook Marketplace for $500.
The used truck was in pretty bad shape and would need some major repairs and restorations to get it drag strip ready.
But the duo who bought it were more than up for the challenge, despite having ‘zero budget’ and having to make do with parts they had lying around.

There’s something uniquely satisfying about picking up an old, battered vehicle for cheap and putting in the time and effort to get it back up and running, like this $350 Nissan D21 truck that was brought back to life, or this Audi RS3 that was bought for next to nothing and restored to its former glory.
Over in South Carolina, Caroline, from the HHWheels YouTube channel, and her new husband Alex were itching to get started on their Chevrolet S-10 drag truck build, so much so that they began work on it one day after their wedding. How’s that for commitment?

The 1997 Chevy truck was in serious need of some TLC, and the couple was also up against a tight deadline, as the rebuild was for Alex’s dad, who would be leaving South Carolina to go home in just two days. No pressure, then…
With no time to waste and no budget, the newlyweds got stuck in and spent 17 hours working on the truck, repairing what they could, fitting a new engine, and replacing busted parts with spares they had lying around.
The rebuild was a real labor of love, and within just 17 hours, they – somewhat incredibly – had the S-10 up and running and ready to take on its first burnout.
“Dude, this is what, 17 hours of work? Seventeen hours of work, 1,500 bucks. That’s a lot of fun,” said the truck’s new owner. “That’s a lot of fun.”
The truck has since been taken home by Randy, its new owner, and will be heading out to the drag strip one day soon.
Don’t you love to see it?
