The Mercedes-Benz G-Class – or G-Wagen as most people call it – is an incredible automotive icon that’s never changed its MO.
It was first introduced in 1979, and it looks (almost) exactly the same after nearly five decades, and maybe that’s why people love it so much.
Alex Hirschi – aka Supercar Blondie – owns one, and it’s no ‘normal’ G-Wagen either; it’s been modded by Brabus.
She has a few things to say about it, including the main reason why she’s only selling it now, and she hasn’t replaced it yet.

Why do you think the G-Wagen has earned its cult status?
“It’s such an icon. The G-Wagen is also super popular in Dubai, partly because the Royal families are regularly seen driving around in them,” Alex began.
“It’s also just a fantastic all-round car. It’s luxurious inside, it’s classy, it’s cool – and it’s good for off-roading in the desert,” she said.
And she also pointed out that she does take her own G-Wagen off-roading.

“I recently just took my Brabus G800 off-roading, which seems extreme because of the value of the car and how it looks.
“It actually performed exceptionally well. I could take it straight from a dinner at a seven-star hotel to the desert – and the car looks like it fits in in both places.
“I love the design of my Brabus G. Even though G-Wagens are super popular in Dubai, this spec still stands out; it’s a special car.”
What was the inspiration behind the design of your Brabus G-Wagen?
Supercar Blondie revealed that she actually originally wanted to go for dark blue for the interior of her Mercedes-Benz G-Class, but then changed her mind at the last minute.
“When I was updating my G-Wagen with Brabus, I always had my eye on doing a dark blue interior because I’d seen one before and it was absolutely stunning.
‘But then when I was at Brabus, I saw this Tiffany blue color, and at the time, no one was really using it,” she explained.
However, she conceded that the novelty effect is largely gone now.

“I’d never seen it in a Brabus G-Wagen before, so I went with that. Since then, it’s become more popular, and it’s not as unique now.”
As for the exterior, the idea was to offset the bright blue that adorns the cabin.
“I had seen some people doing a fade of two colors and wanted to experiment with that by bringing some of the Tiffany blue to the exterior, but mixing it up a little with the silver.
“The dish wheels also weren’t that popular back when I got them, so they stood out. I still think they’re the best-looking wheels on a Brabus and am so happy I got them,” she said.
What’s your favorite feature?
“Brabus surprised me with a starlight roof that can change colors. I really like that feature. I don’t usually like sitting in the back of a car, but the starlights make the experience so much better,” she said.

Mercedes-Benz recently introduced an electric G-Class: would you ever consider swapping it?
“I am selling my Mercedes-Benz G-Class because I’ve had it for years now and I am ready for a change,” she said.
“However, I’ve been looking around at options, and there’s just not been anything that I get excited about swapping the G-Class in for, so that says a lot,” she said.

“I was considering a Cybertruck because I love the styling, and when I drove one in LA, I loved how it drove as well.
“But I already have the electric Rolls-Royce Spectre, and so I’m not sure if I want another fully electric car.”
She summed up: “That’s probably why I wouldn’t swap it in for either the Cybertruck or the electric G-Class, or any other Mercedes-Benz model. Plus, I absolutely love the growl of the Brabus – I think I’d miss that sound,” she confessed.
Was there anything you’d have changed about it?
“I was thinking about changing the color on the interior and exterior! I love the Tiffany blue, but I just wanted a change,” she admitted.
“I was thinking bright yellow interior with a black exterior with yellow trim. But then now I figured the time for a change had come, hence it’s now being sold on.”
How does it compare to the rest of the cars in your garage?
Supercar Blondie also revealed another juicy detail: her car collection is quite simple right now.
“At the moment, I only have the Mansory Rolls-Royce Spectre and the Brabus. And the Brabus will be gone in a few days,” she said.
She used to own a McLaren 720 S (below), sold through SBX Cars a while ago, but that hasn’t been replaced, and she no longer has the Toyota Hilux she used as an everyday car in Thailand.

We have a feeling that state of affairs may not last long, though.
And maybe she’ll add a new ride to her garage at some point in the future.
Stay tuned for the next chapter of her automotive journey.
