Feast your eyes on the Carapace – the superyacht that transforms into a SUBMARINE

by | Jun 23, 2022 - 2:01PM | Superyachts

This is the superyacht that can transform into a submarine and stay underwater for up to 10 days.

Unlike any other concept, the Carapace can completely disappear under the water and reach depths of 300 meters (985 feet).

The three-level vessel doesn’t compromise on luxury either.

It boasts three on-deck entertainment areas complete with a pool and beach club.

It will also have a lounge, dining room, bar, spa and health club.

And all of it will be fully operational when the yacht is both above and below the water.

Imagine the underwater views!

The 256-foot vessel is covered in a light aluminum structure which serves two purposes.

Not only does it give it a super futuristic look, but the structure also acts as a protective cover, sealing the vessel when it goes underwater.

Naval architect Elena Nappi is the brain behind the hybrid concept.

She said the Carapace superyacht represented a “new class of mega yachts”.

“The world of luxury submarines is one of the last frontiers in the field of experimentation,” she told CNN

“Very often yacht owners are looking for original solutions to be able to offer their friends and their family something special, and certainly that of a diving cruise of this type is something unprecedented in the superyacht market.”

According the Nappi, the Carapace would reach speeds up to 16 knots on top of the water, and 12 knots below it.

So, what will the Carapace superyacht cost?

Nappi did not reveal a price, but it’s estimated to be around the $300 million mark if ever produced.

That’s a lot of money, but compared to the Tesla superyacht concept which is estimated to go for $700 million, it’s somewhat of a bargain.

Since Nappi first teased it in 2019, the concept yacht is yet to be actualized.

But if it was to ever become a physical vessel, there’s no doubt the it would revolutionize the industry.
