A group of car enthusiasts took a 1992 Suzuki Carry mini kei truck up to the Alpine Loop in the Colorado mountains to see if it could keep up with some of the world’s most powerful 4x4s.
Originally launched back in 1961, the Suzuki Carry is a real classic.
Since its launch, the truck has had several facelifts and numerous changes to its engine.
By the time 1992 rolled around, the Suzuki Carry mini kei truck was in its ninth generation and had a 657 cc engine.

The 1992 Suzuki Carry mini kei truck had some modifications
The team from the wonderfully named Life’s Too Short For Boring Cars YouTube channel decided to put the dinky Suzuki Carry mini kei truck up against the much bigger and more powerful vehicles that usually dominate the Alpine Loop.
“It’s basically an urban car that is powered by a motorcycle engine,” Alex McCulloch from Life’s Too Short For Boring Cars said.

But after getting his hands on one of the mini trucks, McCulloch decided to give it a few modifications.
“I ruined it by putting 25 inch tires on it,” he explained.
“We did a two-inch lift, we did upgraded suspension and springs, and then muddy bottom shocks.”
They also built a rollcage so it could be used to haul heavier loads, as well as skid-plates, a new bumper, and some new lights.
But would all these modifications be enough for the Suzuki Carry Mini Truck to handle the Alpine Loop?

While the team wasn’t particularly optimistic about heading into the challenge, they gave the truck its best shot at success by sending it to a mechanic for some last-minute tune ups.
With that done, they headed out to the 63 mile loop that goes through the spectacular San Juan Mountains, and has some rough and tough terrain along the way.
As you might imagine, when the team set off in the tiny truck, they quickly garnered plenty of attention from others attempting the loop – with some folks giving them a quick thumbs up and others appearing to be a tad concerned.
The concern was unfounded, though, as the little Suzuki handled the rough terrain without too many problems.
Somewhat incredibly, it managed to climb 12,800 feet to Engineer Pass.
“The mini truck did great,” McCulloch said.
“Being small and nimble has actually been pretty versatile. It just makes me smile and it makes everybody else smile.”
Although the driver admitted that at times it did feel as though the truck was about to stall, it managed to complete the entire loop – proving that it’s more or less just as tough as the big guys.
