This Tesla Cybertruck owner was left baffled after his truck said the towing range was under 100 miles.

The man turned to a Facebook group in search of answers.

He said his Cybertruck’s computer had been calculating that he had less than 100 miles left when towing a trailer.

Was this symbolic of a wider issue that happens when towing with EVs, or was there something else at play?

This driver was having a problem with the towing range on his Tesla Cybertruck

A Cybertruck owner wrote in a Facebook group for other drivers of the EV, hoping for some answers.

“I’m a bit confused about why the truck computer says I can’t go 100 miles on a full charge at 55-60mph, especially when pulling an empty 81/2 by 16 trailer that likely weighs around 2,000lbs,” he wrote.

“I know that towing usually cuts your range in half.”

And that’s not the only issue that presented itself.

“When I navigate past a pre-planned charging spot on my route, the computer suggests charging at another one that’s even further away,” he continued.

“However, it’s not showing me the state of charge percentage that will be remaining when I get there.

“Instead, it just shows me a line. Why is the Cybertruck’s trip computer so confused?”

What was the explanation behind this frustrating problem?

It’s hard to give an exact answer to this driver’s woes, as it feels like there’s a lot at play.

And there’s a lot left unknown with regards to the state of the truck, general driving conditions, etc.

Various factors can affect the range of an EV, including whether it was used in winter or on the highway.

And yes, towing does lower the range too.

If all three of those factors are occurring at once, the towing range could easily dip below 100 miles, Torque News reported.

There are a lot of things to bear in mind when it comes to towing with a Cybertruck.

Never tow any load that is more than 75 percent of the vehicle’s maximum capacity. Always plan ahead, and make sure you have a backup plan when it comes to charging.

Some charging stations will be okay with you bringing in a towing trailer, while others will not.

As for the computer giving imprecise directions – it’s always best to use such technology with a degree of caution.

After all, it’s not infallible and errors can occur.

If you do miss your exit for a charging station, it’s best to re-route to get there if possible.

If the next charging station is out of the EV’s range, this could be a recipe for disaster – unless you’re the local towing company, of course.

The towing range of the Cybertruck has frequently been a hot topic among those who drive it.

And for the most part, it’s been getting a positive reception, as one owner who towed a 7,000lb camper found out.

But not everybody has the same experience – this Canadian driver certainly didn’t.
