A Tesla driver says that everyone should enable a little-known feature on their cars to enhance their EV driving experience.

The driver posted a video on their TikTok account detailing a security feature that is unique to the EVs.

Yet despite being a core feature, it’s one that not many know about, and some don’t even know how to get the security feature to activate.

It could provide an extra layer of protection for your EV, yet other owners seem quite divided by its potential.

What does the little-known feature do on a Tesla?

Tesla enthusiast Marshmello Cloud said on their video: “If you give your phone to a lot of people and you own a Tesla, you may wanna enable this.”

What it is is a PIN that adds another level of security to the EV.

It is a feature that is on most models, such as the Model Y or the Model X.

The PIN allows you to activate various features such as parental controls and curfew reminders.

But it also adds another layer of protection on top of things such as the glovebox or activating Valet Mode.

The best part of the feature is what happens if you try to put the car in drive with a PIN enabled.

It will flash up in the car on the infotainment screen.

The car will then ask you to enter your PIN to drive it.

That seems like an excellent idea.

Not everyone wants their car to have a PIN

As with a lot of Tesla things, the hidden feature has proved to be quite divisive.

Some feel that you simply don’t need a PIN to be able to drive your car.

Then there is the potential for the screen to retain the oils and grime from our fingertips, leaving prints on the screen.

Should a thief enter the car and catch it at the right angle, the light could indicate where our fingers were most regularly.

That, in turn, could then reveal the numbers in the car’s PIN.

Tesla, though, has said its engineers have thought of this.

The keypad for entering the PIN always shows up in a different spot when the vehicle starts, making it much trickier.

But it’s clear some are unsure if this little-known feature helps or hinders when it comes to protecting your car.
