This Tesla Model Y driver tried out Mad Max mode for the first time and had to share his thoughts on Reddit.

For the first four months of owning the car, Kirby616161 had been using Full Self Driving mode.

While he enjoyed it, he felt that it felt ‘really slow’ at times and was ‘not nearly aggressive’ enough.

All of that changed when he gave Mad Max mode a try.

Moving from FSD to Mad Max mode – a massive upgrade or a huge disappointment?

Mad Max mode has been billed as the fastest profile by the American manufacturer, as it promised to override speed limits and make more frequent lane changes.

It was included in FSD v14.2, which quickly followed on the heels of FSD v14, which was the first update in a year.

From the get-go, there was controversy as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced it would be opening an investigation.

But early beta testers had positive things to say, particularly about the ability to change lanes.

So what did Reddit user Kirby616161 make of Mad Max mode after switching over from FSD?

“My max speed is set to 85[mph] and [Mad Max mode] has no problem hitting 70 on a ramp,” he wrote.

“The way it moves in and out of traffic, so safer and secure, it truly is the future. If everyone was on it the roads would be so much smoother.”

All in all, he described it as ‘truly unbelievable’.

Did other Reddit users agree with his assessment?

There appeared to be a mixed reception in the comments section of the post.

“I used Mad Max to drive my wife and I from NJ to the Bronx, and I was very impressed,” one user wrote.

“I haven’t really tried Mad Max yet, but I’m looking forward to it on the interstate where I live because the speed limit is 80,” another said.

But there were others who weren’t sold.

“Anyone who says Mad Max is their favorite setting is a menace to society,” someone joked.

“Sounds like a future lawsuit to me,” a fellow critic commented.

“The FSD update has been a pretty big letdown for me personally,” a third said.

Well, different strokes for different folks, as the saying goes. Have you tried it?
