Tesla owner checks Sentry camera footage and immediately issues warning to other owners

This Tesla owner posted a warning to other EV users in the form of his Sentry footage, having been left shocked after checking it.

When Reddit users saw the footage, they were left stunned by what unfolded.

The footage apparently illustrated a growing problem for EV users.

Is awareness of the problem enough? Or is there more that drivers can do?

What this Tesla owner saw when he checked his Sentry camera will shock you

When a driver takes their EV to a public charger, they’ll have a few things on their mind.

They may be thinking about how much range they have left or how much they’ll spend on this charge.

Perhaps there’s some portion of their brain thinking,’I wish I had a home charger’.

What they likely aren’t worrying about is somebody trying to remove the charger from its charging port.

But that’s what one Reddit user saw unfold while at a public charging station.

Footage on his camera showed two different people attempting to remove the charger, presumably in an attempt to charge their own vehicles.

This footage shocked Reddit users, who were surprised that something like this would happen.

“I’m speechless. I had no idea this was a thing,” one wrote.

“The fact that people think it’s okay to touch someone else’s car is crazy,” another echoed.

There were a few people who shared their own experiences of charger swiping.

“A few months ago, a lady did exactly that to me,” one Redditor said.

“Had my car unplugged only once in 3 years. I am in the Bay Area, but went to Napa one day. Found a charge-point in a garage and plugged in,” another recounted.

“Midway through dinner, I saw I wasn’t charging anymore. When I got back, I checked Sentry, and it was a middle-aged couple.

“I tried to unplug them, but their car autolocks the plug, so not much I could do. I was on a date, so I couldn’t teach them a lesson.”

So what can be done to prevent this from happening to you?

How to keep your charging port safe

The advice of the original poster who’d shared this video?

Get a cheap ring lock to keep the charger locked in.

It certainly did the trick in this video, as the couple was unable to remove it from the Tesla and ultimately gave up.

There’s also the very real possibility that they realized Sentry Mode was on and decided not to continue.

Sentry Mode cameras have certainly delivered some interesting footage.

When this Model 3 owner left her cameras on for 24 hours, she came to something totally unexpected.

And there was the guy whose Sentry tipped him off to California cops towing his car.

It’s certainly proven handy.
