You can now check Tesla Supercharger availability in real-time on Google Maps, so you can avoid range anxiety when out and about.

When it comes to encouraging folks to make the switch from a gas-powered vehicle to an EV, charging infrastructure is an important issue.

And it’s an issue that Tesla has taken very seriously, as it continues to roll out its Supercharger network at an impressive rate

And now you can check out real-time availability right on Google Maps.

Live Tesla Supercharger availability can be viewed in Google Maps – here’s how it works

When the Tesla Supercharger network was introduced, it was exclusively open to Tesla vehicles, but in more recent months, it has begun to welcome non-Tesla EVs thanks to its NACS rollout.

Today, there are more than 70,000 Superchargers worldwide, making it the largest and most reliable fast charging network in the US.

While other EV charging networks, including BP Pulse and Evie Networks, already shared their live data with Google Maps, this wasn’t the case for Tesla.

Those who wanted to check out the live availability of a Tesla Supercharger could only do it via the app or its own navigation system, meaning non-Tesla owners had a bit of a tough time.

Thankfully, Tesla has now announced that it will be sharing its real-time Supercharger availability data with Google Maps, meaning non-Tesla owners get the same information as Tesla owners.

When searching for a Supercharger on Google Maps, you’ll now be presented with the total number of stalls, as well as how many are available at that current time.

This means EV owners no longer have to worry about arriving at a Supercharger only to find all the stations in use.

EV charging stations are rolling out at a record rate

With more EVs on the road, cities across the US are rushing to provide charging infrastructure.

So much so that in the third quarter of this year, the installation of new EV chargers hit record levels

Figures from the Department of Energy show that 780 public high-speed charging stations opened in the US in the third quarter, the biggest boom of its kind.

Across the first nine months of the year, EV charging infrastructure in the US has grown by 19 percent.

Alongside that, California now has more chargers than it does gas nozzles, with Governor Gavin Newsom saying ‘94 percent of people now live within just 10 minutes of an EV charger’.
