Texas man buys a new Tesla Cybertruck but returns it the same day after finding out its real history

A Texas man thought he was getting a factory-fresh Tesla Cybertruck, but the EVโ€™s alleged backstory made him return it the very same day.

The buyer, Reza Soltani, placed his order expecting the usual long wait that many Tesla Cybertruck customers have dealt with since launch.

Instead, he was told almost immediately that his truck was ready for pickup in Houston, which raised his eyebrows straight away.

What the Tesla Cybertruck buyer discovered about his new EV

EV owner Reza Soltani ordered a Cybertruck in April 2025 and was stunned when Tesla assigned him a VIN within hours and offered same-day collection.

At first, that sounded incredible, but after contacting a Tesla representative through the app, he says learned the truck had actually come off the production line on January 8, 2025, meaning it had allegedly been sitting in storage for about four months before being delivered to him.

Soltani shared the experience in a Facebook Cybertruck owners group, explaining that the discovery completely changed how he felt about taking delivery of the vehicle, and a news report claims he refused delivery and requested another truck instead.

The truck is facing mounting criticism

The unusual delivery story comes as the Tesla Cybertruck continues to attract attention for reasons beyond its futuristic design.

The electric pickup has faced criticism over recalls, quality concerns, and slowing demand despite the huge hype surrounding its original reveal.

Some owners online have also complained about receiving vehicles that had been stored for long periods before delivery, especially as Tesla reportedly worked through unsold inventory.

Even so, the Cybertruck remains one of the most recognizable EVs on the road today, with its futuristic stainless steel design making it impossible to mistake for anything else, apart from this group of raccoons who thought one was a dumpster.

Although this Texas buyer walked away from his truck, at least he found out the history before driving off the lot.

Because discovering your โ€˜newโ€™ vehicle has been sitting abandoned for months is probably not the kind of surprise feature Tesla planned to display.
