Concorde is one of the most talked-about and iconic airplanes to ever exist, and now, a picture of Concorde flying at Mach 2 has surfaced online.

The aircraft was able to achieve extremely short transatlantic flight times thanks to the capabilities of its engines and impressive design.

After taking to the skies for the very last time in the early 2000s, the replication of the supersonic plane’s performance has been attempted by many startup aviation companies.

Passengers were able to fly from London to New York in less time than it takes to get from New York to Los Angeles, but the plane’s reign of the skies came to an end at the turn of the century.

The Concorde was able to fly at supersonic speeds

No passenger is a fan of long-haul flights in a cramped cabin, and once upon a time, there was a solution.

The Concorde was able to fly passengers in its narrow, yet powerful jet in record time from America to Europe, including New York to London in just three-and-a-half hours.

Now, decades after the plane was first rolled out, a picture of the plane flying at Mach 2 speed has surfaced and has simply blown aviation enthusiasts away.

The picture appeared online of the plane reaching an impressive speed, which translates to a whopping 1,534mph.

Now, the plane was able to achieve this speed thanks to its extremely powerful engines and unique design, which included a smaller cabin and a pointed nose.

The aircraft flew between 1976 and 2003 and gave the gift of super-fast flights to lucky passengers in Europe and the US.

“Concorde’s fastest transatlantic crossing was on 7 February 1996 when it completed the New York to London flight in 2 hours 52 minutes and 59 seconds,” explained British Airways.

The plane also measured a mighty length of almost 204ft, and could stretch another six to 10 inches when it was flying, thanks to the sheer heat of the airframe.

However, there have been some discussions online about the plane actually never reaching Mach 2 in a picture before, with aircraft specialists debating the fact.

Aviation fans were blown away by the plane’s sheer beauty

After the picture surfaced online, aviation fans couldn’t get enough of the supersonic plane.

“For the Tornado crew, pushing up to Mach 1.6 was among the greatest moments of their career. For the Concorde crew, it was Tuesday,” commented one user.

“Love how it really looks like it’s almost in space here,” remarked another.

“That’s my favorite thing about this photo. It was taken by a fighter jet that was seriously struggling to keep up. It just really drives home how impressive Concorde was,” said a third.

Concorde has captured attention long after it hit the runway for the last time.

In fact, thousands of people recently thought Concorde was flying from Paris to New York until they realized things weren’t quite what they seemed

Plus, we bet you didn’t know that on board the last ever Concorde commercial flight, Jeremy Clarkson poured water in Piers Morgan’s lap.
