This supercar – built by a company called Totem – looks like an Alfa Romeo, but it’s actually a modern electric restomod.
Loosely based on an equivalent restomod inspired by old Alfa Romeos, this is a one-off for a customer in California.
It packs a punch – 600hp – and it does 0-62 in just three seconds.
But you’ll be surprised to hear how little this actually shares with the original Alfa sportscar that inspired it.

This Alfa Romeo-inspired electric supercar
Called the Zeal01 and built by Totem in Italy, this is a one-off commission of the Totem GT Electric, which is in turn a restomod evolved from – and inspired by – the classic Alfa Romeo Giulia.
Instead of a V6, it uses a rear-mounted electric motor producing roughly 600hp and is capable of a 0-100km/h (0-62mph) sprint in under three seconds.

Unlike the original, which is a limited-edition production model available in several different colors, this one-off commissioned by a client in California features a unique ‘Azzurro Pervinca’ – a real, historic Alfa color – paint and two-tone interior.
What’s really crazy is that when you include the full carbon-fiber monocoque, this vehicle only shares around 10-20 percent of the original donor Alfa.

This is why restomods are so popular today
A restomod is basically a classic car reengineered and modified with modern parts, usually in an attempt to make it more usable in today’s traffic.
Purists generally don’t love them, but they’re quite popular.
Even though obviously they’re never cheap: this one costs $700,000.

We’ve got restomods based on the Porsche 911, the Maserati Shamal, and there’s even one that combines a Jeep Wagoneer and a Ferrari – they call it the ‘Jerrari’.
Some companies take it further by turning these icons into electric cars.

That’s what happened with this ‘Alfa,’ and also what other companies have done with just about anything you can think of.
Jason Momoa, for example, drives a 100-year-old Rolls-Royce powered by an electric motor.
