The new Toyota GR GT is the ultimate track supercar, but now it could be coming to the streets too.
Toyota’s Australia chief, John Pappas, has expressed his enthusiasm about this car making its debut on the streets of cities Down Under.
Built by Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division, the GR GT was made to compete with the likes of the Porsche 911 and Ferrari 296 GTB.
Now that it’s been announced, can we expect to see it out on the roads, too?

Is the Toyota GR GT coming to the streets of Australia any time soon?
The Toyota GR GT has been hotly anticipated for a while now.
Way back in January 2022, the GT3 Concept was unveiled at Japan’s Tokyo Auto Salon, with a racing variant debuting at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK in July 2025.
Back in November 2025, the internet went wild for the teaser that came before its big reveal the following month.

Both a road-going (GR GT) and racing version (GR GT3) have been revealed by the Japanese manufacturer.
Dubbed the ‘Porsche killer’, this car boasts a twin-turbocharged V8 engine making 641hp and 627lb-ft of torque.
Top speed? Toyota has said it’ll be ‘greater’ than 199mph, which all sounds very promising – it’s just a shame that we’ll have to wait until 2027 for production to get going.
Down in Australia, John Pappas seemed particularly keen about this car being rolled out in his country.
Speaking to national media, the Toyota Australia chief stressed that no formal decision had been made yet.
“Look, I’d love to see that car come to Australia. That is going to be unbelievably great for the brand, that GR,” he said.
“Nothing to announce today, but yeah, we’ll definitely look at that if it can become available for Australia.”
