Toyota's electric car has a special cameo in the Superman movie

Toyota’s electric car, the Toyota bZ, will feature in the new Superman Movie.

Keen-eyed viewers will have certainly already spotted that.

Toyota’s electric car was included in something that’s (in part) a teaser trailer for the movie as well as an ad for the company.

But there’s a bit more to it than that, and it tells us something about the Japanese automaker.

The likely reason why Toyota’s electric car was included in the movie

Toyota’s electric car, the Toyota bZ, will be driven by Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman movie.

This is important because this ad probably cost a fortune, and Toyota is famously not super keen on EVs.

So the fact that the company has decided to fork out an undoubtedly large amount of money to have the car featured in the movie is telling.

Toyota has long been voicing its skepticism for EVs, arguably because the company pioneered hybrid technology and hybrids will potentially be replaced by EVs.

Toyota isn’t exactly leading the transition to electric power, but the fact they’re now willing to put their EV in front of millions of eyes in a movie probably means they’re ready to do a 180 and focus on electric cars.

About the Toyota bZ

Toyota has been using the bZ (beyond zero) namesake since 2022.

The company first unveiled the bZ4X and then several similar vehicles, mainly for Japan and China.

The particular model that’s featured in the movie (which some people say vaguely looks like Cybercab) is the upcoming 2026 bZ.

The 2026 bZ was designed as a flagship vehicle to replace the first model, the bZ4X.

Most of these bZ models are only sold in China, which is a huge market for EVs, but only one, the bZ is sold globally.

Toyota doesn’t have a problem shifting units, the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. in 2024 was indeed a Toyota.
