This travel vlogger filmed his experience of flying First Class, and the airline threatened him not to post the footage.

After starting off his first-class experience, genuinely enjoying the whole experience and thinking it was a good experience for his money, the situation devolved massively.

The Air Steward began to verbally harass the travel vlogger and threatened his safety when he landed if he carried on with his very neutral travel vlog.

The airline has since responded to the vlogger, owning that it messed up and showing deep remorse for the situation, with even the Kuwaiti royal family getting involved.

The airline threatened him not to post the First Class flying footage

Meet Dan, a YouTuber known for his popular travel vlogs where he reviews different flying experiences, particularly in different First Class experiences on different airlines.

This time, First Class on a Kuwait Airways Boeing 777 airplane was in the hot seat, and the review started off quite positively in favor of the airline.

He enjoyed the spacious window suite, Emirates-style minibar, and the good amenities, which all came at a shockingly good value.

Service began with a lemon-mint welcome drink, dates, Arabic coffee, and then a fairly decent food service, WiFi cost extra, and while the seat is impressive, the mattress padding and bedding didn’t feel very ‘first class’.

During the review he had been filming just his area, no other fellow passengers were included, and his experience had been good so far.

However, the Chief Air Steward verbally threatened him, insisting he should’ve gotten permission to film or they ‘can’t guarantee [his] safety when [they] land’ – with things quickly taking a turn for the worse.

The police got involved

In a second video, Dan explains how he was confronted early on by the Chief Steward, who had warned him against recording crew or passengers.

He reassured the man that he was only filming himself and the seat he was in.

Dan had been filming discreetly throughout his experience and pointed out that there is no airline policy or Kuwaiti law against filming yourself onboard a plane.

About an hour and a half before landing in Kuwait, the Chief Air Steward started harassing Dan, and insisted that he needed prior permission to film and told Dan he absolutely cannot post unapproved footage.

The Chief Steward got the pilot involved, who demanded that Dan sign a form not to post any footage, and when Dan refused to sign it, the airline threatened him to say his safety could not be guaranteed when they arrived in Kuwait.

Once they arrive, the pilot continues to tell off Dan, citing cultural concerns, and he claims that filming is illegal in Kuwait, then the police board the plane to review Dan’s footage to see if he filmed ‘sensitive security equipment’.

No legal action was taken by the police because, despite the fact that the airline threatened him, everything that Dan had filmed was perfectly legal.

The airline has profusely apologized

Dan described the Kuwait Airways response to him as ‘surprising’, and ‘never in [his] wildest dreams would [he] expect to receive an email from the president/chairman of the airline’.

Dan had a suggestion for a better airline policy where airlines should let passengers discreetly film their flights while politely reminding them not to capture crew or other guests in the process.

The Chairman of the airline personally emailed Dan to apologize and described it as ‘unacceptable behavior’ he also offered to have an in-person meeting with him to apologize face-to-face.

In a shocking move, a member of the Kuwaiti royal family reached out to Dan and apologized for his experience and offered him a refund or a further flight, both of which he refused.

It seems like the whole saga is over now, and while people could admit that it was a great response from the airline and the royal family, some of his commenters believe he got better treatment due to having a popular YouTube channel.

We have reached out to Kuwait Airways for comment.
