YouTuber breaks down hypercar running costs after thousands of miles on the road
YouTube personality Tomi Auto recently went all in on a new hypercar, purchasing a $1.25 million Porsche 918 Spyder, and took it off to party with engine royalty at Goodwood.
But the pristine Porsche, also owned by the likes of LeBron James, is renowned for costing a few bucks to maintain – as is with any car of this ilk.
The content creator has now racked up a couple of thousand miles on his new million-dollar toy, taking it on a road trip from the UK to Monaco.
So, having learned the ins and outs of his Porsche, he’s now broken down the hypercar running costs, including the extensive price of servicing, the extortionate value of replacement parts, and how much he stands to lose or gain from fluctuating value prices.

First off, Tomi Auto notes that he paid more for the car than it was originally worth. Having been released at $1.25 million MMRP, the Porsche 918 Spyder has now increased to around $1.6 million in value.
He expects that to rise by around 6%, pushing it towards the $1.7 million mark, making some good equity.
But on the flip side, the insurance is priced at $13,500 a year, while a standard service can cost up to $10,000.
That’s somewhat cheap for a hypercar, but still significantly more than your standard $100 from the local garage.
Any paintwork is also priced at $8,000 with its protection film, so any scratches or stone marks are a costly accident.
Full paintwork jobs are even more expensive, so picking your color is key.
Porsche 918 parts are not cheap
But it’s the parts that make hypercar running costs so expensive.
The YouTuber documents a string of common fixes that accrue thousands of dollars worth of cash.
Carbon fiber windscreen wings ($1,300), side deflectors($1,300), mirrors ($7,300), magnesium wheels ($75,000 for a full set), front splitter ($17,000), Michelin tire set ($3,200), and Hybrid batteries ($135,000) show how big these jobs are.

So, would you really want to own one when you know the true hypercar running costs? I’d wager the answer is still 100% yes. But at least you know to leave some savings to one side.
